In addition, nüvi 1250 accepts custom points of interest, such as school zones and safety cameras, and lets you set proximity alerts to warn you of upcoming POIs. HotFix can predict satellite positions for up to three days after the device was last turned off. ecoRoute With this feature, drivers can view suggestions for fuel-efficient navigation, conserving both money and fuel: - Save Gas and Money--Now more than ever, we're all looking for ways to conserve both money and fuel. Whether we're taking fewer trips or carpooling with family and friends, saving resources is a top priority. It was that thinking that led to the creation of ecoRoute--Garmin's free software update for compatible nüvi products that allows you to find more fuel-efficient routes when navigating and even track their fuel usage. With ecoRoute, you may be able to save gas and money by adopting smarter driving habits.
- Select Fuel-efficient Routes--With ecoRoute, you have a "less fuel" option as a routing preference. When selected, nüvi will determine if more fuel-efficient routes exist based upon road speed data and vehicle acceleration data for a given route.
- Get Fuel and Mileage Reports--Through ecoRoute's Fuel Report and Mileage Report, you can focus on your habits even when you're not behind the wheel. Fuel Report tracks fuel usage over time, and Mileage Report monitors mileage and fuel usage on a per-trip basis. In addition, Mileage Report makes it easy for business travelers to keep track of distance traveled for company reimbursements. You'll have a detailed report for each trip and the miles driven. You also can customize your nüvi by entering your car's fuel economy and the current price of gas.

Garmins work, Magellans do not July 16, 2010 Centennial I needed Canadian maps for a trip. But, my old Magellan Roadmate could not get/use them. After reading reviews, I noticed a lot of warnings regarding Magellan quality and service issues. My last one worked, so I ordered another Magellan. Well, the new one did not work and I could not get any service. I returned it and picked a Garmin, due to the number of points of interest. I have used it in Canada and the US. Works great, including the text-to-speech function.
Pros: 1.) It works. 2.) See #1. 3.) Comes with Canada and US maps. Automatically changes from US to Canada maps as you cross the border. No manual intervention needed. 4.) Quick start up, if the top of the unit is facing up to the sky. 5.) Love the text to speech function. 6.) Great basic GPS plus speaking street names. I do not need all the other extra stuff.
Cons: 1.) Will not accept zip codes. 2.) Will not show points of interest along the selected route. You have to stop and manually search for them (Magellan just shows them as you drive, when it works of course). 3.) Slow start up if the unit is laying flat.
Sorry to say, I was very disappointed in the new Magellan. Not sure what happened to that product line. We still use the old Magellan. It works great, as long as I stay in lower 48 States.
Less Is More July 11, 2010 AC (Illinois 60142) With all of the features of Nuvi 1250 3.5 it, for me, is more than adequate. I wanted a good basic unit without any extras other than text to speech. This unit locks onto the satellites almost instantly. The screen is clear and easy to use. Speed indicator turns red if you exceed the posted limit; a nice safety feature.
Routing is typically Garmin intuitive. Voice is clear and can be programmed for male, female, accent, and various languages. It is a good looking unit and does not take up much space. It is easy to store and fun to use.
I have other Garmins with traffic, lane assist and a larger screen. It you don't need or want these features (I don't miss them) the 1250 3.5 is a good choice. Often less is really more.Garmin nüvi 1250 3.5-Inch Portable GPS Navigator
Excellent buy! June 28, 2010 MW1971 This product was a great price and I love the GPS and all the features it offers. Also, I find that the smaller screen is more functional because I don't want to watch the GPS, I'd prefer to watch the road.
Long distance travel and alternate routes June 7, 2010 Frustrated Driver (North Carolina) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
When I encountered a closed bridge in Portsmouth NH, I attempted to access Alternate Route on the nuvi 1250 and was redirected to the same closed bridge, through back streets. There was no way to enter an Interstate number which I knew would take me over that body of water and get me on my way to my destination in Delaware, so I had to stop and ask directions several times. Traveling onto NYC and Boston, Garmin seems to have made a deal with the George Washington Bridge Authority - could not get it to avoid the bridge and its insane traffic, even when traveling back from Boston to Long Island. Ended up using Google maps and just turning on the Garmin to access local addresses. I would think that you should be able to detour when encountering traffic, a closed bridge or planning a long distance route.
Good Stuff May 9, 2010 Rafael Carneiro Augusto (Brasil) Nice and good looking GPS. It's different and special gadget, because the Garmin dedicates your product to navigation only. I totaly recomend all Garmin GPSs.
